Reading the night
The bar
The night runs noon to noon, shaded for the sky at each moment: bright for daylight, two steps down through twilight, black for true dark. Striped where the moon is up, so solid black is your window.
The rim
A 24 hour dial with midnight at the top. The bold arc is the best window, dark with the moon down, and a knob rides round to show now: on the arc, it is a good time to be outside.
The simplified face
Tap DOWN and the same night is drawn round the rim instead, freeing the centre for the clock and the best window in bigger text, then the date, the moon's phase and the battery.
Made for the dark
- The light is off by default: a white light ruins a dark-adapted eye, and a red torch lights this reflective display perfectly well.
- The moon's phase sits at the foot as a disc, filled where it is lit, so a new moon and a full moon look nothing alike.
- B is the best window and D the whole of astronomical dark; a SELECT hold swaps in sunset and the civil twilight range, and remembers.
- One GPS fix tells it where you are: step outside with it open once and it remembers. Until then it says NO POSITION.
- Settings changed in the phone app take effect within a minute, with no restart.
